What is Viral Marketing?

I’m not a writer, and I’m not a native English speaker — but here goes a try;

Viral Marketing is a term that is rather unknown to most people on the internet although its one of the most efficient ways to gain exposure for your brand. Viral Marketing is a technique that marketers use to gain brand awareness on social networking sites.

With so many different people using social networks like Facebook and MySpace it’s very easy for a brand to become popular amongst mass amounts of people. You can see all sorts of different viral marketing ads as well, ranging from flash games to text messages. All sorts of ways are used to market brands and studies have shown that if someone likes a product they will typically tell at least three friends. Viral Marketing is based in hopes of people sharing the ad with friends.

All marketers performing viral marketing campaigns must try and find people with a high social network potential. This means that they have a large base of people that could receive the advertisement making it a successful viral marketing campaign. Viral marketing is typically an ad that takes off like a virus and spreads through social networks making a brand more appealing and noticeable. It can be utilized by anyone but more efficiently by companies with a bigger budget.
